BERTHA Project Hosts Online Mid-Term Review with CINEA Project Officer Andrea Arcelli

The BERTHA project, funded by Horizon Europe, successfully held its Mid-Term Review Meeting online, bringing together consortium partners and the European Commission to evaluate progress and set the course for the second half of the project.

The meeting featured a fruitful exchange with Andrea Arcelli, Project Officer from CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, who provided valuable feedback and strategic guidance.

Key Highlights from the Review

  • Progress Showcase: The consortium presented advancements in the Driver Behavioural Model (DBM), which uses probabilistic approaches like Bayesian Belief Networks to replicate human driving behaviour.
  • Simulation Integration: Partners discussed the integration of DBM into platforms such as CARLA, enabling realistic testing in mixed traffic scenarios.
  • Strategic Feedback: Andrea Arcelli’s comments and suggestions were highly appreciated and will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of the project.

Advancing Human-Like Autonomous Driving

BERTHA’s mission is to develop automated driving systems that are predictable, acceptable, and human-like, contributing to safer and more intuitive mobility solutions. The project’s behavioural modelling approach supports the broader goals of Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM).

What’s Next?

With the first half of the project successfully wrapped up, the BERTHA consortium will now focus on:

  • Refining behavioural models
  • Enhancing validation scenarios
  • Preparing for open-source dissemination and stakeholder engagement
